About Cathedral Grove

Cathedral Grove, officially known as MacMillan Provincial Park, is home to one of the most accessible stands of ancient Douglas fir trees on Vancouver Island. Some of these magnificent giants are over 800 years old and tower 75 meters above the forest floor.

Located along Highway 4 between Parksville and Port Alberni, this 157-hectare park provides an easy opportunity to experience the majesty of old-growth coastal temperate rainforest. The park was donated to the province by timber baron H.R. MacMillan in 1944.

Walking through Cathedral Grove is like stepping into a natural cathedral, with towering tree columns and filtered light creating an almost spiritual atmosphere. The park's easy accessibility makes it one of Vancouver Island's most visited natural attractions.
